It’s time to “wake the town and tell the people” that you are about to be married!
Here’s some helpful information that will help you make this process easier . . Newspapers today either have a printed form or some type of format that will ask the Bride’s full name and address . . the Groom’s full name and address . . and their parents’ names and addresses. The Bride and Groom will also be asked to provide their educational background, their place of employment, and their wedding date. The engaged coupled will also be required to sign this form before the information is published. A black and white professional “engagement photograph” is preferred (a close-up of the couple’s faces and upper body). Ask if the photograph can be returned with a self-addressed stamped envelope or can you pick it up after it appears in the newspaper. Your engagement can be announced without a photograph. Each newspaper has a qualifying time frame or period for engagement announcements. It could be “no longer than one year in advance of the wedding date” or “at least six weeks prior to the wedding date”. And if you wish to have your engagement announced in the Sunday edition of the newspaper there could be a waiting list. Most newspapers do not charge a fee for announcing your engagement in their paper but there are some exceptions. And most importantly, make sure you give a contact’s name, address, and telephone number in case there is a question or concern about your announcement. Here’s an example of a basic engagement announcement: _____________________________________________________________________________ Mr. and Mrs. John David Williams, of Anytown, Pennsylvania, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Mary Elizabeth Williams, to Mr. Robert Paul White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven James White of Anytown, Maryland. A September 2, 2007 wedding is planned. Miss Williams graduated from Boyer Academy and is a senior at Davidson University, Anywhere, Maryland. Mr. White graduated from Central High School and Davidson University, Anywhere Maryland and is a graduate student at Pullman University, Anywhere, Ohio. _____________________________________________________________________________ The announcement of your engagement will delight your parents, grandparents, and those people who love and care for you.
